"Dedicated individuals giving to those in need" |
training |
This year's fire season should prove to be a challenge. Your training will be used again and again. Non-department members are welcome to take part in training. If you are from another department please contact us before attending training. Generally all non-Thursday drills require students to pre-register. Call 775-463-2261 for more information. |
In 2005 our 30 regular members completed 986 hours of in-house training. This
doesn't count the hours of out of district, non-required training. Great
job! |
Training note: What is our training all about? Unlike most departments, we train almost weekly. Most Thursdays are filled from 7:00 -10:00 PM with fire or EMS training. Training is administered by Division Chief Scott Huntley. Scott has been responsible for all department training since 1998. |
There are some key concepts that we must maintain in all department training.
Safety of our members is fundamental. Training must be conducted so members
are educated and energized. Looking at something will not fix it! Firefighters
and EMTs that dont train are not prepared. Due to our members dedication, giving,
and professionalism our training has to be excellent. By training and striving
to improve our customers are served better |
As in the past, one extremely important goal this year will be safety. At all training,
focus on completing every task all the way. For example, closing your turnout
coat completely every time will help ensure you will be protected when the
heat is really on. EMTs lift properly to make sure that on the heavy call you
will not be injured. April's training focused on the subject Wildland, for good
reason. Take a look around! We sure train often. For a department our size we train big time! This proves your dedication to serve our customers well. It also ensures your Division Chief is busy. Please let me know of any requests you have for Thursday training. Stay safe and train! |
The best definition of EXCELLENCE is: There is no higher honor than human service. To work for the common good is the greatest deed. |
