What would happen if no one responded? The Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department responds to over 1200 fire, rescue and EMS calls for service per year. We are staffed with 6 paid personnel and approximately 15 active volunteers out of a membership of around 30 members. You can make the difference. For an average structure fire it takes a minimum of 14 people to staff the equipment needed to safely fight the fire. When this happens, it depletes our resources for additional calls and we must look for other resources. You can make the difference. According to the national Volunteer Fire Council, volunteers, if they were to be replaced by paid personnel, save the taxpayers of Mason Valley almost two million dollars per year. You can make the difference. We can not properly protect this valley with paid or volunteer staff only. We must work together as a team and we need your help. It only takes our most precious asset, time. We all have responsibilities; family, job, kids, community service groups. But what better of a community service than that of protecting your family, friends and community? You can make the difference. You need no previous training or experience; we will train you to the level of your interest. There is no better feeling than that of giving back to your community and saving lives and property. You can make the difference during the most difficult times of peoples' lives. Please contact the fire department or any fire fighter if you are interested in helping those in their time of need. You can make the difference! Chief Scott Draper Yerington/Mason Valley Fire Department |
